Halloween is Coming; The Best Zen Decorations For Your Home

It may still be summertime, but in just three months, it will be Halloween, aka the Celtic festival of Samhain (Sow-WIN), an old Gaelic word meaning ‘Summer’s End.’ There is also the Mexican festival of the Day of the Dead, which occurs around a similar time, as well as the Christian equivalent of Eve of All Souls on the 31st and All Saints’ Day on the 1st.

Regardless of which tradition you follow, if you desire your home to be full of good energy this Halloween, but you’re not sure what sort of spiritual or Zen decoration to have around your place, you’re in luck. Here are some tips to help you have a truly Spirit-centred home when the 31st of October rolls around:

Colours

Many people associate Halloween with orange and black, but if you are new to a more alternative spiritual path, try adding red to the mixture, particularly when it comes to candles, altar fabrics or other tablecloths, and even your party glasses, should you decide to have a big Halloween bash for your friends.

Red and black are common colours associated with the sign of Scorpio, which occurs from 22nd October to 21st November. If you purchase candles for spells, the red would be appropriate for conjuring desire, courage and strength.
Another popular colour for Halloween is purple, which is commonly associated with psychic activities. Since this is one of the two times of the year when the veil is thinnest, divination and astral work will be quite effective when you add the power of purple to your ceremonies.

However, since Halloween marks the beginning of the Celtic New Year, you don’t necessarily have to limit yourself to orange, black, purple or red. You can even add yellow to the mix, especially if you are requesting help from Spirit concerning happiness, confidence and personal power.

Just bear in mind that Spirit may use the introspective power of the winter months to bring your attention to the actions you need to take in this realm regarding the fulfilment of anything you desire.

Crystals & Stones

Gems and stones are another great addition to your Zen décor for Halloween, especially since this time of year bridges the gap between this realm and the next. Depending on how you wish to set things up around the house, crystals and stones not only make for attractive displays, they are also a powerful choice for creating good vibes in your home.

For example, you can create powerful grids featuring crystals that correspond to the time of year and what you wish to let go of, and what you wish to bring in, whatever that may be.

If you do not have space for grids, you can simply gather specific stones and crystals in small dishes and place them strategically around your home, based on what areas need to be cleansed and empowered. You can even place a few tumbled stones around pillar candles for added good energy.

Even if you throw a party and you have friends who don’t understand the meaning of your Zen decoration, they will still find your candle-and-gemstone arrangements quite impressive and beautiful.

Figurines

For those who like funny or amusing figurines that cater to the more secular crowd, but still have a touch of spiritual energy, you can’t go wrong with classic shapes such as cats, witches and bats. A common witch figurine is that of the ‘old hag.’ While this is something of a negatively stereotypical image of a witch, it has its basis in the Crone, or Wise Old Woman aspect of the Goddess.

If you’re keen on the Mexican Day of the Dead ceremonies, the coloured ‘sugar skulls’ are a popular way of celebrating the turning of the seasons right along with everything else. It all depends on what you personally fancy.

With Halloween comes powerful energy of new beginnings and deep introspection even as you celebrate with both secular and spiritual friends alike, so create good vibes in your home that both delight the eye and empower your life.
